NHL Draft
Shea Theodore: Prospect on the rise June 03, 2013
Shea Theodore is a young man on a mission. Since joining the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL in 2011-12 as a 16-year-old, the native of Aldergrove, B.C. has steadily been moving up in the NHL Draft rankings. With the draft now just a few weeks away, Theodore finds himself ranked as high as 11th among North American skaters.
Still just seventeen years of age, Theodore has a big frame (6’2 175) that he can grow into, and plenty of time to mature. After scoring 4 goals while averaging almost a point a game in his rookie season, he took his production to another level in 12-13’, finishing with 19 goals and 50 points, good enough for 8th among WHL defensemen.
Taking age into consideration, he led all 17-year-old defensmen in goals, and was second only to potential 1st pick overall Seth Jones in points.
Known for his elite level offensive skills that compare in style to Washington Capitals D-man Mike Green, he has shown over the last two years that he can also log big minutes, taking on more responsibilities in the process.
At the NHL Combine, Theodore impressed in the Peak Power Input test, finishing tied for 1st with a score of 15.8 watts/kilogram.
