NHL Draft

NHL Combine: Sean Monahan looks to make an impression May 31, 2013

With the NHL Draft combine now in full swing, there will be a plethora of prospects trying their best to move up in the pecking order. One of those young men will be Sean Monahan, currently ranked 5th among North American skaters.

A big 2-way center with loads of hockey sense, Monahan will be one of the feature attendees, especially with two players expected to go in the top 3 (Seth Jones and Jonathan Drouin) not participating.

Compared to the likes of Patrice Bergeron and Gabriel Landeskog, Monahan is perhaps not the flashiest of top-end prospects, but he makes up for it with his leadership skills and hockey acumen. Despite his young age, he was named captain at the start of the season, showing the kind of respect he has earned from coaches and teammates alike.

The 18-year-old can score, too.  Despite playing on the last place Ottawa 67’s in the OHL, Monahan still managed to score 31 goals and add 47 assists for a total of 78 points. The next best point-getter on the team was Cody Ceci, with just 40.
