2013 NHL Draft: Hunter Shinkaruk May 28, 2013

While most of the fanfare will be centered on the top 3 picks, there are a few other prospects that are garnering a lot of interest. One of those players is Hunter Shinkaruk of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Shinkaruk had many doubters going into this season. There were those who assumed his stats were inflated last year, playing alongside Anaheim Ducks’ 1^st rounder Emerson Etem.  Those doubters were silenced this year however, as the Calgary, Alberta native put up largely similar numbers to last season, and even guided the Tigers past the heavy favorite Saskatoon Blades in the first round of the WHL playoffs.

What the sniper lacks in size he makes up for in skill and tenacity. To make it in the NHL you need to have not only ability but also the will to succeed, and that Shinkaruk has in spades.
