Gustav Nyquist scores in Red Wings victory May 21, 2013

The Original Six matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks took an intriguing turn last night, as the 7th-seeded Wings took game 3 of the best of seven series. They now lead the series 2 games to 1.

Back-to-back goals by Gustav Nyquist and Drew Miller proved to be the decisive blow in the second period, and Pavel Datsyuk’s quick answer to Patrick Kane’s marker in the 3rd put the game firmly out of reach.

It all began with a fantastic solo effort by Nyquist on the first Red Wings goal. After receiving a flip pass in the neutral zone, the Swedish winger deked out two defenders before waiting out goaltender Corey Crawford, cooling slotting home the opening goal.

It was Nyquist’s second goal of the playoffs, his last being the overtime winner in game 2 of the first round versus the Anaheim Ducks.
