Lundqvist’s 2nd consecutive shutout propels Rangers into next round May 14, 2013
A year removed from beating the Washington Capitals in game 7 of the Conference Semifinals, the New York Rangers pulled off the feat once again, this time winning on the road in convincing fashion, 5-0. The win was backstopped by another Henrik Lundqvist shutout, his second in a row.
After falling behind in the series 3 games to 2, Lundqvist put the team on his back, posting a huge 1-0 victory, stopping all 27 shots he faced. Last night he did it again, but his teammates were just as involved, throwing down the gauntlet with a 5-goal outburst.
The Rangers will now go on to face the Boston Bruins in the next round of the playoffs.
Lundqvist has been in all-world form since being nominated for the Vezina trophy last week. He will go into the Conference Semis with a statistical advantage over Bruins’ netminder Tuukka Rask in practically every category. The Swedish star boasts an incredible GAA of 1.65, and a save percentage of .947.
