Tom Wilson named OHL player of the week April 23, 2013
After his stellar play in two games over the weekend, Plymouth Whalers forward Tom Wilson was awarded player of the week honours. He finished the week with three goals and a rating of +3.
Wilson did all his damage on the score sheet in a 4-3 double overtime victory over the London Knights, Sunday. The Whalers fell behind on three separate occasions in game 2 of the best of seven Western Conference Championship series, and it was Wilson who tied it up each time.
The Toronto, ON native could not have chosen a better time to record his first career hat-trick. The last of his three goals was the most thrilling, coming with just 48 seconds left in regulation.
Plymouth would go on to win the game in double overtime thanks to a Rickard Rakell winner. It was the longest game in Plymouth Whaler history. The series is currently tied 1-1
It has been an excellent year for Wilson. After being drafted in the first round of the 2012 Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals (16th overall), the gritty 19-year-old winger registered 58 points in 48 regular season games, while adding 12 in 9 playoff appearances thus far.
