Sutter and Iginla come up big in Pens victory April 18, 2013
Playing without many of the team’s stars, Jarome Iginla and Brandon Sutter took matters into their own hands last night, leading Pittsburgh to an easy 6-4 victory over the Montréal Canadiens. Both players scored in the first period, with Iginla making it 3-0 with 21 seconds left to play of the period.
Despite the loss of captain Sidney Crosby, and now recent injuries to Evgeni Malkin, James Neal, and Paul Martin, it has been business as usual for the 1st place Pens. Still, you will not get anyone on the team speaking about the likelihood of an eventual 1st place finish.
"No one's talked about getting that No. 1," said Iginla, whose power-play goal in the final minute of the first period made him the 58th NHL player to reach the 1,100-point mark. "It's just about keep getting better as a group and keep the habits the right way. There's not many games left in the season, so the goal is to try to keep sharp."
Both Iginla and Sutter are new to the team this year (with Iginla having joined at the trade deadline), but neither have had trouble fitting in. While Sutter has 11 goals, Iginla has 6 points in 8 games with the Pens thus far.
