Lundqvist Set to Take His Place in the Rafters Among Rangers' Legends January 28, 2022 - CNBC

Henrik Lundqvist will have his No. 30 jersey retired tonight during an on-ice ceremony at Madison Square Garden. He will be only the 11th player in the team’s history to receive the honour.

Lundqvist was selected by the Rangers in the seventh round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. The Swedish-born star, famously know as ’The King,’ played 15 seasons, all as a member of the New York Rangers. After 887 games, 459 wins and 64 shutouts, he is the winningest goaltender in franchise history and holds more than 50 team records.

Before winning the Vezina Trophy in 2012, he was nominated in each of his first three seasons. The five time All Star currently ranks sixth on the NHL’s all-time wins list for goalies and holds the record for most wins by a European-born goaltender in the NHL.

The King will go down not only as a Rangers’ legend but one of the sports’ all-time great players and ambassadors.
